The Intake Interview

The intake interview is a collaborative and confidential discussion where your Access Specialist will get to know you better. They will review the information in your application and in your documentation and talk about your past experiences.

What to expect

  • Your experiences: We’ll ask about your academic history and what accommodations you have used before, with a focus on what has worked well for you in the past. We’ll also ask about what challenges you anticipate in your classes.

  • Documentation: We’ll look at the documentation you provided and connect hte information to your personal experiences. This will help your Access Specialist get a complete picture of how your condition impacts you.

  • Accommodations: Together, you and your Access Specialist will discuss the most suitable accommodations for your courses. This may include things like extended time on exams, distraction reduced testing spaces, note-taking assistance, assistive technology, or accessible course materials.

Don’t forget to ask questions, not just about the Access/Ability Center, but other services at CCNY, college policies, and how to use your accommodations. Your Access Specialist is here to support you in any way they can.
