Abstract:
Topology plays an important role in our understanding of quantum matter. The topological classification of electronic bands gives rise to 鈥渢opological insulators.鈥 These phases are not only mathematically elegant, but also exhibit unusual physical properties sought after for next generation quantum electronics. I will describe the past decade's search for topological materials, culminating in the theory of topological quantum chemistry.
